If you have ever found yourself in a stressful situation, anxious or nervous… take a moment to notice your breath. It’s probably shorter, sharper or maybe you are even holding it. When we don’t breathe properly, oxygen is blocked to the brain and we can’t think clearly or rationally. We become more stressed and anxious as a result, sometimes gasping for air without realising it.

Next time you find yourself in a difficult situation, stressed, worried or nervous; take a moment to check your breath. Close your eyes and breathe in to the count of 4 and breathe out to the count of 8. Keep the counts slow and consistent. Repeat this over and over for about 10 minutes or until you feel relaxed and calm again.
